October 30th, 2008Ars longa, vita brevis… I always remember this Latin phrase originally said by the Ancient Greek philosopher Hippocrates, when I see gorgeous art pieces. Art is what makes me think about the life and its meaning, it is what allows me to look at the world from another side. It helps me plunge into another reality.
So, today, I would like to present the works of the international celebrities, two of the greatest surreal artists, masters of imagination – Vladimir Kush and Jim Warren. Currently they are living in the United States and continuing to create amazing masterpieces that are much admired by everybody. Vladimir Kush was born in Russia. His career as an artist began when he was a child of 3 or 4. In spite of the fact that his father was a scientist, everyone on his side of the family used to draw all the time. From an early age Vladimir attended art classes where he studied the history of art and painted his first surreal picture. Then, at the age of 17, he entered Moscow Art Institute.
In 1987, Vladimir began selling his paintings and exhibiting with the Union of Artists. At that time, he was invited to paint a series of portraits for the U.S. Embassy staff. In 1990 he took part in a show in Germany with two other Russian artists. And he was a great success. Then he went to Los Angeles, where he sent 20 of his recent works for a showing. This was a beginning of his American odyssey, as Vladimir says.

Jim Warren is a great master of imagination. He is a talented fine artist from the United States. He was born in 1949 in Long Beach, CA. Like many talented children, he started painting in early age.
But it was only during his studies in high school Jim officially decided to be an artist. This is how he tells about himself: “I’m basically self taught. I learned some basics in my high school art class. At college I attended several life-drawing classes, and always studied the great masters at museums.” Mainly he prefers to work with traditional oil paint on stretched canvas which he coats with a gesso primer.

“Island Dreams” by Jim Warren.
Jim Warren: “The ideas for my paintings often start with a simple subject. In this case, romance. From there the imagery falls right into place, first in my mind, then on paper, and last on canvas as a completed painting.”

“Don’t Mess with Mother Nature” by Jim Warren.
Horses are one of the popular themes in Jim Warren’s art.
